How to use these hints

Every day the New York Times Spelling Bee gives you seven letters in a honeycomb. You make words of at least four letters, every word must contain the letter in the middle, and letters can be used more than once. The puzzle has a fixed list of accepted words, and finding all of them makes you Queen Bee.

The hints on this page go from gentle to full answers. Start with the grid: it shows how many words of each length start with each letter. The two-letter list narrows it down to the first two letters. If you are still stuck, read the clues: each one gives a word's first letter, its length and a short meaning, and you can open the answer for that one word only. The full list is at the bottom, folded away.

Already found some words? Type them in the box near the top. The grid, the two-letter list and the clues then show only what is still missing, so you can see at a glance which letters and lengths to work on.

Questions

When do the hints change?

The New York Times publishes a new Spelling Bee at 3 AM Eastern time. This page switches to the new puzzle shortly after that and keeps yesterday's answers further down.

Why is a word I found not on the list?

The official game accepts only common words chosen by its editor, so many real words, names and very rare words are left out. Our Spelling Bee solver uses a much larger dictionary and shows those words too.
